The goal of the Bracken Health Ministry and Wesley Nurse is to provide care, education, health
promotion and collaboration for the Body, Mind and Spirit of the people in the community
surrounding Bracken United Methodist Church, particularly in the underserved. This includes the
congregation but extends out into Guadalupe, Bexar and Comal County. A survey is done each
year to identify health and other needs for the Ministry to focus on. Since the start in July 2006
the Health Ministry has conducted a number of activities in many different areas. Some are:

Millions of people struggle every day with mental and emotional issues. Some choose to keep
things to themselves, others may seek support from family and friends. Still others have tried
everything and continue to live in pain. If you are struggling with issues that don't seem to
resolve, we are here to help.
Annie Viers and Celese Inman are Licensed Professional Counselors who are highly trained in
their field. With different specialities that range from marriage and family to anxiety and
depression to play therapy, they match you with the appropriate counselor and resources.
They offer their services at a very affordable, reduced rate for those who are members of the
participating churches, including Bracken UMC.

- Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar Screenings
- Vision and Hearing Screenings
- Community CPR
- Exercise Classes - Walk and Chair Exercise for different age groups
- “Putting Your House in Order” Seminar
- Health Units for Bracken Preschool

- Angel Food Ministry
- Diabetes education and Supplies Program
- Prescription Assistance
- Individual assistance, home and hospital visits, referral to resources, medical and other.
